How do I debug a grunt watch task that is successfully watching files, but not running?

I’m writing a Gruntfile to backup some Drupal 7 sites. The watch task is successfully running, and I’m watching for changes in some files.
If I run the task manually (i.e., grunt watch), everything works as expected. That is, when I make changes to some files, a backup file gets created.
However, when I run the task automatically (i.e., grunt watch), the task runs but no backup is created.
In other words, when I change the files, nothing happens.
Here’s the part of my Gruntfile that watches the files.

Turns out that the watch task can’t run more than one task at a time. So the command grunt watch was not the same as grunt watch, and the latter successfully created the backup.
