gard, the selfish boss, giving his usual ill-considered sales pitch to his young employee, pulled out a tissue from his jacket, drenched the ball. i opened my hands. i closed them and held them up. i wasnt here to make money, i was here to talk about a new kind of wave, a new kind of music. if you know anything about the history of the black musician, you know that every time a black musician comes along and defies the system, the ruling classes go out of their way to stomp them. theyre hated for being unruly; theyre beaten for being creative. theyre destroyed for getting big. but its time they owned the industry. its time they owned the music. its time we made them rich. its time to make them, and us, and our kids, rich. now, consider the legacy of hansards work in developing a computer program to play the game lemmings. although the design documents that the hansard society prepared in the 1980s called for a production of many thousands of lemmings, the hansard society chose to focus on lemmings for the hansard website and for the purposes of the game. some scholars have noted that the use of thrifties semi-legendary character lemmy is intended to promote the game. at the same time, the plaque on the game lemming stands in the house of lords, which is the house of commons chamber. such is the potential legacy of hansards work: a piece of computer software that celebrated childrens violence and contributed to the evolution of expertise in the house of commons.21
q: variable frequency oscillator: sine/square/sawtooth wave i’m trying to convert the voltage waves of 5.1 vpp into square and sawtooth waves at variable frequency between 20 and 120 khz. the idea is that i would like to use them as variable-rate pwm signals. the full-wave rectification circuit already works great (i.e. produces square waves at variable rate), but now i’m only concerned about the generated sine wave. for that purpose i came up with 2 different circuits. for one, i combine a variable-frequency signal generator (which produces square waves) with a second signal generator that produces “normal” sawtooth waves: simulate this circuit – schematic created using circuitlab however, this circuit seems to be too slow, or doesn’t produce much power, or both. the output of the signal generator is a constant sine wave, but can be interrupted by any character. i’m just looking for a “clean” sine wave, and i’m not interested in interrupting the output waves with “welcome messages” or anything like that. the second circuit i came up with: simulate this circuit instead of combining both circuit outputs, i try to somehow produce normal sine waves from square waves. however, i’m not able to find a way of doing this. when using the “pulse-width modulated” square wave as input, the output simply oscillates between the nearest edges of the square wave, and thus also oscillates between positive and negative values. here is a graph of the output of the circuit as a variable-frequency sawtooth (similar to what i’m trying to achieve): is there some circuit that would do what i’m trying to achieve? if not, what would be the best way to approach this? a: this is a great question. first off, i should point out that a 20 khz sine wave is more noise than signal. so what you’re looking for is either a 20 khz square wave or a square wave with some noise added. you can use the simplest approach, which is called am modulator, to build the square wave into the sine. this is called modulation of the sine wave. but what you really want is a variable-frequency square wave, so that you can modulate a sinewave with a square-wave for a sine. this is called fm modulation. to build a fm modulator, you need an oscillator of a single frequency, and a variable-frequency phase-locked loop (vf-pll). typically, a ring oscillator is used in a vf-pll. first, you can generate a sinewave with a vf-pll: simulate this circuit – schematic created using circuitlab this could also be built using an integrator followed by a comparator to generate the square wave. note that the input signal to the integrator is a low-pass filtered version of the input sine wave. now, to get the square wave added, you’ll have to mix a filtered version of the output square wave and the input sine wave, and amplify the result. this is all quite complicated, and you should probably do the design work before putting the parts together. but there is a simple solution that i’ll show using a network analyzer. use a network analyzer to sweep the frequency of a sine wave into the negative-going channel (or sweep into the positive-going channel, for a square wave).

Can two tasks on a single processor be scheduled in different cycles?
I have a question. Suppose I have two realtime tasks on processor 1.
One can be scheduled at a time but the other has a variable delay (i.e. you can’t tell when it will run).
The question is, can they be scheduled in different cycles?
Thanks in advance.
A:
Yes, they can be scheduled in different cycles. For example, suppose the first task has a cycle time of 10 microseconds and the second task has a cycle time of 30 microseconds. Then you would schedule the second task to begin execution 10 microseconds after the end of the first task’s cycle time. Each task is scheduled to a specific cycle in the scheduler.
