Q: Can’t boot Windows 10 on Lenovo G505 laptop with Windows 8
Since I reinstalled Windows 10 and thus did my best to set it up.
I hope I will this week and it certainly didn’t work out.
I just bought a Lenovo G505 laptop and of course installed Windows 8. I was happy.
Since then I always get a message that this is a bug and I also had to disable Windows 8 as a backup.

The new TV series ‘Game of Thrones’

Finnish researchers have found the basic principle behind the way that human brains store memories and recognize objects. The technique could be a step towards being able to restore memories in patients who lost them in an accident or have dementia.

More science fiction than reality?

Perhaps. The findings by researchers at the University of Turku, published recently in the journal Science, suggest that our brains may use a kind of search engine to compare features of memories and identify them. That means our brains could store detailed memories of visual objects and scenes of our own experiences.

The researchers used a human subject and showed him a virtual reality world containing a number of different items – coffee mugs, cars, chairs, flowers, etc – and then showed the subject one of each item at a time. The effect was to gradually strengthen the subject’s memory of each object, in accordance with the widespread belief that the more similar objects you compare, the stronger the memory becomes.

“The brain has the ability to store detailed memories of visual objects and scenes of our own experiences in the short term. While the stored memories disappear over time, we’re only aware of the things we have already experienced – the ‘what’ of memory. The brain can store the details of objects and scenes, but not their ‘where’ and ‘when'” says Dr Jari Tommola of the University of Turku.

“Older memories are not necessarily superior in any way to new ones. They’re just the ones that the brain remembers, the ones it deems relevant. We might even build some of our most exceptional memories from things we experienced when we were three or ten years old.”

It’s possible to use this principle to create a kind of brain-computer interface which allows people to easily learn new things.
