Problem with “IN” clause

I have a table in a database that contains a list of client Ids.
When I try to write this list of Ids as a parameter to a stored procedure, it is not recognizing the Ids in the list.
I have two columns in the table that correspond to the Id and some data.
When I use
@clientIds nvarchar(max) = ‘1055,1056,1057,1058,1059,1060,1061’

I get this error:
Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 4
Incorrect syntax near ‘,’.

So it seems to be that my clientIds list is being treated as a single Id.

Your IN clause must be separated with a comma, like this:
@clientIds nvarchar(max) = ‘1055,1056,1057,1058,1059,1060,1061’

The comma tells SQL Server that the comma-separated list is not actually a string (which is why you’re getting the parse error), but a list of values.
So, it is treating your string as a set of integers. You can see this in action by attempting to execute your stored procedure with just one of your IDs (say 1060):
EXEC usp_SelectThis @clientIds = ‘1060’

This will result in a parse error. You need to execute the stored procedure with all of your IDs.
In fact, the following should work, too:
EXEC usp_SelectThis @clientIds = ‘1055,1056,1057,1058,1059,1060,1061’
