Using the Detect Text option, you can easily extract the object’s text from either the image or the image itself. This makes text part of your metadata that people can reach directly when tagging your photos. (Another feature that I find very useful is being able to upload your photos directly into texting apps like iMessage and Twitter Messenger .)

Adobe has revamped Lightroom’s release cycles. You can now easily and regularly make updates over the air. I’m not sure why this wasn’t in place before Lightroom 4, but now it is. And, you can always come back to the older version if you ever have to go back. You can even sync changes over the air.

I have to admit, the previously mentioned shortcuts and keystroke cheat sheets have everything that you need to perform common and necessary tasks in a single, simple click. I use it all the time. I may not have become a Lightroom 5 beta tester yet, but it is impossible to ignore these cheat sheets when using Lightroom. They are for anyone new to Lightroom, or even if you’re already comfortable with the new release. In fact, they are handy if you are using a keyboard only and need to use an onscreen keyboard that may not perfectly match the shortcut and keystroke commands. However, I do not think they belong in professional filmmaking workflows when we are talking about the Mac operating system. They are quirky and, for a professional working with footage, it is best to stick with what we already know. Hands on the keyboard can be great, but I cannot get the same speed and precision as I can with voice-recognition and gesture control.

When you come to version 15, the program no longer just allows for simple editing and organizing; it requires the user to learn its many functions and do extensive photo retouching. It’s not just a photo editing program. And it doesn’t just make it easy. It offers a wide range of more advanced photo editing features. It has an intuitive user-interface and workflow for a full range of photo editing needs. For those who are comfortable with Lightroom, they can easily access Photoshop. Having more RAM connected to your processor will ensure you have a highly optimized powerhouse computer to handle any and all Photoshop tasks. Ever since I was able to afford my own computer, I never purchased a computer with less than 16GB of RAM. Most computers nowadays come with at least 8GB of RAM which is sufficient. The one nice thing about RAM unlike a processor is that you can replace the RAM and add more after purchasing it. However, make sure to check this as again, companies like Apple have made it impossible to replace the RAM in their computers. It is always worth double checking!
