How to determine how many items are in a QFileSystemModel?

There are answers out there, like this one, which suggest using QFileSystemModel::rowCount(const QModelIndex &parent) to get the number of items in the model. This answer provides the Qt4 function QModelIndex::row, which returns the number of rows in a particular row.
However, neither QFileSystemModel::rowCount(const QModelIndex &parent) nor QModelIndex::row appear to work if the model is using a QStandardItemModel. So, what is the correct way of getting the number of items in a QFileSystemModel?

The problem was that the particular QFileSystemModel in question had no children. However, it did have items, which have children. Unfortunately, QFileSystemModel::rowCount(const QModelIndex &parent) gives the number of children items, not items, and so returns 0.
QFileSystemModel does have the function count, which returns the number of items, but unfortunately it only works for QTreeView. So, the solution is to just loop through the items and count the items until it is exhausted.
